What is MIDI?

What about copyrights?

Well, a rather tough theme. I agree with my net-friend: "...afterall everyone has the right to play another person's songs as long as there is no financial gain. Midi files don't seem to infringe on anyone's copyright, unless they are the original files..." So both asking money for these files, and paying for them are prohibited.

Who sequenced these files?

These midifiles are sequenced by several amateur musicians all over the world. Some of them are made by me. Please visit the Credits page. Anyway I try to mention author(s) of midifiles at each title.

How do they sequence these files?

I used to use a walkman for listening the original song. "Picked down" several channels by ear and parallelly I played in the tunes by my MIDI keyboard. Sometimes I sketched a channel then it was played in. Nowadays I make a .WAV file of target song (since buttons of my walkman did not like previous method at all), then try to "listen out" adequate notes. That's all.

Why can't you download a midifile?

Since I make my .HTM files on my home machine (not on the net), then upload them to the server, a mistake can happen (e.g. a wrong link), but it's rare. If You click on a title and your computer wants to play, but not to download, try RIGHT mouse button, and choose 'Save link as...'

What else should I know about these files?

The most files contain special events, so they're best on a Sound Canvas, SCC-1 or other instrument. You may need a GS Reset file.

Which kind of MIDI setup (gear) do I use ?

CARD: I use a SCC-1 Sound Card which contains General MIDI, MT-32, LAPC-1 sounds.
It's a instrument with 316 beautiful sounds, 9 Drum Sets, and a SFX Set.
KEYBOARD: My favourite keyboard is the A-30 keyboard controller. 76 dynamic and a bit weighted keys, a lot of MIDI Controls.
SOFTWARE: In my opinion one of the best sequencer programs is MUSICATOR . Excellent sequencer and scoring program in one. CAKEWALK PRO AUDIO 8 is a great sequencing software, too.

What is my real name?

Well, my family name is KERENYI (approximate pronouncation is: Care 'A' Nyee). My first name is Gabor (equal to Gabriel, Gabe in English), but we use our names in reverse order in Hungary (like in Japan), so my name is Dr. KERENYI Gabor.

What does my username 'KEPENU' mean ?

It's a funny conversation of my family name, written by Cyrillic letters then read by Latin letters. We called each other this way in Primary School. That's it.

What is KEPEMusic Ltd. ?

It's only a joke. This covers only 1 person, me. A lot of my friends use a name of a 'virtual company' for their hobby, so I'm the KEPEMusic Ltd.
